WASHINGTON – Furloughs have hit the Pentagon and employees hit the pavement. Dozens of runners set off for the Federal Furlough Five-Mile Fun Run for Freedom on Monday evening.
They started next to the Pentagon with the intent of running to the Capitol. The run, however, was cut short by 20 percent to reflect scaled back work time they have as a result of the furloughs.
Race tags highlight what workers would normally be doing. Most participants say it’s just a way to get through an un-fun furlough day.
Organizers plan more (unsanctioned) events in August and September.
